10:41p Pointsettia
Say someone realized his gift for his mother didn't quite cut it and he'd like to at least show up with flowers / a pointsettia on Christmas as a hostess gift - where in the Buffalo area might be open Christmas morning and have flowers?
I saw flowers at Wilson Farms tonight but they looked pretty sad. I think I'd be better off sans flowers than showing up with the discolored, half-dead flowers from there.
I'm in the Elmwood Village but could handle a bit of driving.

1:35p 3D ultrasounds?
Hey there dorks, I'm coming home for my baby shower and I thought it'd be a great idea to have a 3D ultrasound done here so my parents could be there for it. I'd be paying out of pocket for it, and searching around online only found me one place - Baby Bump Motherhood Center in Cheektowaga - but they seem to do a lot of advertising on forums and craigslist and the webpage seems kinda wacky. There was also another place in Rochester, but I'd prefer to keep it as close as possible since it will be February and who knows how our weather will be.
Has anyone had a 3D done in the area that they can recommend? Or places to avoid? Thanks in advance!

10:51p Fat people skiing/snowboarding?
I'm a plus sized girl, and I have this *brilliant* idea that I'm going to learn to either ski or snowboard. I have never done either in my life, unless you count the one trip to Chestnut Ridge about 13-14 years ago, and even that was only cross-country skiing.
I'm sick of seeing my fit friends hitting the slopes and me staying home. Plus, January is apparently national 'try a winter sport' month, according to Holiday Valley's website.
I'm not going to beat around the bush, here. I'm fat. Plain and simple. I'm out of shape, but not entirely. I hit the gym when I can, and I'm flexible. I was a dancer for many years, and to be perfectly honest, I'm pretty damn good for a fat chick. I can bust a move! But I'm a realist, and I know my limits. If I fell When I fall, I probably couldn't get up as easily as a skinny person could. But I'm willing to try this, and I'm afraid if I don't do it now, I won't ever get out there.
Holiday Valley offers beginners packages with rentals and lessons and the whole nine.
So here's my dilemma: any other fat Buffalonians in this community who ski and/or snowboard? I need some tips! Or beginners in general - have you tried out HV's beginner thing? Was it worth it?
I'm totally out of my element here, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Other than a few pounds and probably my dignity (and I threw that one out the window when I realized how lame it was that I was googling 'can fat people ski?'), I don't really have much else to lose.
Help! :)
(ps, I promise this isn't a dig at other fat people, I'm just trying to be honest. I still love you all.)

12:35p Buffalinguists?
If I've already posted something to this effect, please do excuse.
I've been fascinated with languages my entire life, enamored with language study ever since about the 10th grade.
Although I've studied numerous languages and gained near-fluency in a few, I find it's incredibly difficult to continue learning and maintain what I've learned. I've spent semesters abroad, but I've never solidified connections with other linguists / speakers of languages, outside a few lingering school contacts and online acquaintances.
I'm looking to see if any of you dorks are also Buffalinguists??
( If the first part of this enticed you, go on and read the second! )
If you know or study any of the above languages and want to join me, leave a comment! If it turns out we number more than a few, we could even be really elitist and start our own LJ comm ;)

3:48p I'm Megaballin'
Hey dorks!
Ever seen a big, dancing, yellow ball with a tophat?
One of your fellow dorks will be outside Carl's Lotto Market in Cheektowaga tomorrow from about 11am till 3pm, dressed up as [drumroll...] THE MEGABALL. Since the Mega Jackpot's up to 162 mil.
Anyhow, if you're in the area, drop by and support a [very chilly] fellow dork!
[Disclaimer: If anyone under the age of 18 wants a picture with the MegaBall, a parent or guardian must be present in the photo.]
Hope to see you there, feel free to introduce yourself!

2:19p
I'm moving out of state and have no need to take my old day bed. It's white metal, lightweight, pretty easy to put together, and it's up for grabs. I just ask that you come and get it before New Year's.
You can e-mail me for it: mollieopoly at yahoo dot com.

1:41p Help us Find Dance Lessons?
You all are always so helpful and I'm hoping that some of you may be good dancers or have an interest in it and be able to help us out again. We're getting married in June and are looking to take some dance lessons. A friend who works for another studio that does belly dancing (and other dance types we're not interested in learning for our wedding) heard about Fred Astaire Dance Studio (on Sheridan near Wegman's) and they have an introductory offer of 3 lessons for $25.
Questions:
Is this a good price?
Is this a good place?
Do you know of a better price or place?
We aren't looking to take lessons weekly over few months, rather we're ideally looking for a good price on enough lessons for us to get by, and we'll do lots of work on our own because we're po'. So the cheaper the better. We'd like to be able to sign up for a few lessons, learn the basics and have something to practice on our own, then go back for a few more lessons (as that seems like it'd be cheaper). Unless you have suggestions of a better way to learn? We're really not competent in this at all, so all help and advice is greatly appreciated! :) We're interested in learning something fun and well known like a tango or a waltz, something our guests will recognize.
TIA!

1:01p Mechanics
Hey all, I live in Amherst and I'm looking for a mechanic. I drive a VW Jetta, but it's a diesel too. Can anyone recommend me a trustworthy mechanic in my area? I need an estimate on my car for the repairs which need to be made (which is a lot) and I want to go somewhere that isn't going to hose me.
Thanks!

6:55a absinthe
Hey,
Anyone know of any liquor stores in the 50 mile vicinity that carries a decent selection of absinthe? Specifically imports. I sort of waited way too long to do my holiday shopping online and want to see local offerings as opposed to sweating out the postal system.
Thanks!
Ditto goes for anywhere with antique accessories, such as spoons. That would be AWESOME. :)

5:30p Watch out!
I live in Allentown on North St. near Elmwood and just want to warn everyone of some little thieves!
My brother's car, along with 6 others, were broken into late last night. We have gated parking, but it doesn't seem to be keeping any of these jerks out.
Be careful!
